CPMC Doctoral Internship in Clinical Psychology

California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) offers rigorous, high-quality education and training to graduate students from around the country in preparation for a career in clinical psychology. Our APA-accredited doctoral internship continues many of the established traditions of psychology training and combines a broad-based, generalist education with specialized training in a variety of hospital-based settings.

The CPMC Psychology Internship offers ten full-time, 12-month positions, working across age groups, including infants and children, adolescents, adults, and older adults.  Our mission is to provide intensive education and training in an intellectually stimulating and respectful environment that prepares interns to deliver effective services in an ethical and culturally-sensitive manner.

The CPMC Outpatient Mental Health Clinic is our low fee, hospital-based outpatient psychiatry clinic that serves as the “training hub” of the internship.  Trainings and supervisions are provided at this central location and each intern carries a caseload of outpatient therapy patients.  Interns receive “core training” in analytic theory and intervention, which is the long-standing tradition at CPMC.  The proportion of time each intern spends in the outpatient clinic varies by position, but this aspect of the internship provides grounding for the program and allows for a unique and cohesive training experience.

Training Tracks

Please refer to our Training Website for a detailed description and of our Training Tracks and required application materials.

Supervision Philosophy

Supervision is one of the strongest elements of the CPMC Psychology Internship Program.  Drawing from a large, dedicated group of faculty, supervisors and instructors, CPMC interns benefit from five to six hours of supervision each week.  We offer a blend of supervisor styles, from hospital-based staff to private practice providers, and from former interns to highly regarded experts with decades of experience.

Working from a analytic foundation, our supervisors emphasize a modern, culturally competent approch to learning and practice, while mixing a variety of modalities and approaches.  Additional supervisors can be added to individualize training plans, to develop clinical or professional competencies, and to address intern’s needs and interests.

Training Curriculum

Consistent with our approach to supervision, the CPMC Psychology Internship Program offers a unique educational curriculum that enables interns to develop their knowledge base and refine their clinical skills through an array of seminars, case conferences, and other trainings that vary in length and scope.

Stipends/Financial Support

Interns receive an annual salary of $34,445 plus a generous benefits package that includes medical, dental and vision coverage for the employee and qualified family members. We offer ample time off during their internship year for vacation and sick leave as well as professional leave for post-doc interviews, dissertation defense, or to attend conferences and other trainings.
