Brief description of the typical work day for an intern at this training site Interns participate in staff meetings and case consultations, provide individual, couples, and group counseling, conduct initial evaluations and psychological testing, perform crisis services, consultations, and workshops, and actively participate in outreach and programming services. Intern caseloads average 17-19 weekly individual clients depending on intern and departmental needs. Total internship hours equal 40 hours per week. Scheduled hours mostly occur between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Outreach events and programs often occur after traditional business hours, and interns are able to flex the hours spent providing outreach and programmatic services. During the Summer term, clinical caseloads are smaller, and interns will devote increased time to programming/outreach development and other projects for the Counseling Center, as well as having designated time to work on their dissertations.

Program Description

THE COUNSELING CENTER:
The Keene State College Counseling Center serves the Keene State College community, an undergraduate and graduate population of approximately 3,600 enrolled students each year. Counseling services are available primarily to students; however, we also consult with faculty and staff. In addition, we work closely with the Center for Health and Wellness and a psychiatric consultant. Our clients present with a broad range of diverse developmental and mental health issues. Our office is busy, and interns are provided a great deal of responsibility, autonomy and support within a team-oriented, hardworking, extraordinarily supportive, exciting, and fun internship site.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Internship Training Program is founded upon the belief that the training of emerging psychologists is one of the most important and valued activities that can be performed. As a result, we invest a great deal of time and energy ensuring that interns are provided with the highest quality training and supervision possible. One of our objectives is to provide an individualized training experience that is unique to each intern’s current and developing professional needs and abilities. Interns will receive a highly diversified training experience that will, over the course of their training year, provide a representative experience of being a staff member in college mental health. Interns participate in all functions of the Counseling Center including individual and group counseling, assessment/evaluation, crisis management, designing and providing outreach and prevention programs, and performing consultation with other college departments.
