A Virtual Interview is:
Interview notification date: N/A
Tentative interview date: N/A
Interview process description:

Because the SWVA Consortium is partially affiliated with the Counseling Psychology Psy.D. Program at Radford University (RU), priority for each of the 3 internship slots will go to RU students during Phase 1 of the Match.  This priority may be used to determine ranking order between two strong applicants with otherwise similar training and achievements.  However, this priority does not prevent an applicant from a school other than RU from being ranked above a student from RU.  No priority will be given RU students after Phase 1 of the Match.

Applicants are reviewed using the SWVA Applicant Rating Form by the staff at each training site in order to determine which applicants they will invite for an interview with their site. We anticipate that applicants who are selected for an interview typically will be notified on or before December 1. Interviews typically take place in December or January.

After interviews are complete, each training site (Stone Mountain and RU SCS) determines and submits a rank order list for the site.

Interviews take place in-person and are an integral part of the selection process for both the program and interested applicants. During Phase 1 interview day, applicants will meet with Site Directors and associated staff of the agency to discuss the overall structure and goals of the internship consortium, address general questions about the internship site, and review information about Stone Mountain / RU SCS as an organization.

Applicants will be interviewed by the Site Director, potential clinical supervisors, and other members of the respective Training Committees. Interviewees usually will have an opportunity to meet with or talk to current interns in order to have the interns’ input on their training experience. Interviews provide an opportunity to assess goodness of fit for both internship program and intern applicant.

Round 2 interviews typically will be conducted either over the phone or using another form of technology.

Program Description

The overall goal of the SWVA Internship Consortium is to provide broad based training in the competencies believed to be essential for professional psychologists practicing in (a) an integrated, multidisciplinary community health clinic or (b) a college/university counseling center. Some of the competency goals are general and some pertain to one of the sites.

Stone Mountain Health Services consists of 11 health centers across Southwest Virginia and interns placed here will receive experience providing integrated care. Most clients are lower socioeconomic status and Appalachian, providing interns with opportunities to meet the needs of traditionally underserved groups. Two interns are placed at Stone Mountain clinics.

Radford University Student Counseling Services (SCS) serves the needs of Radford students, many of whom are first generation. One intern is placed at RU SCS.

Interns will work at Stone Mountain or SCS all year.

The SWVA Consortium is partially affiliated with the Counseling Psychology Psy.D. Program at Radford University (RU); therefore, priority for each of the 3 internship slots will go to RU students during Phase 1 of the Match.  This priority may be used to determine ranking order between two strong applicants with otherwise similar training and achievements.  However, this priority does not prevent an applicant from a school other than RU from being ranked above a student from RU.  No priority will be given RU students after Phase 1 of the Match.
