Interview process description:

Interviews are second to third week of January. Interviews are generally 3-4 hours in length and include rotating team interviews with staff members (2), open questioning, tour of facility, snacks and/or lunch.

 

Due to Covid, virtual interviews remain possible.  Skype, Googlehangout and phone available upon request.

 

Applicants will be notified by email/letter that RPC would like to invite them for interview. RPC has had 2 interview date options in the past. 2-4 of RPC psychology staff are generally present for interviews.

Program Description

The Doctoral Internship program offered by the Department of Psychology at Riverview Psychiatric Center is designed to provide an intensive professional training experience in acute and chronic inpatient psychiatric care, consultation services, and community re-entry programs. The primary goal of the internship is to help develop competent and skilled clinical psychologists, using a practitioner scholar model. RPCs internship standards are based on APA and APPICs policies and guidelines. Major rotations for all interns include acute inpatient psychiatry; psychological assessment and consultation; forensic assessment and treatment; group psychotherapy; and individual psychotherapy. Interns work with senior psychology staff as part of multi-disciplinary teams on treatment units and as full colleagues in the professional activities of the department. Interns will be exposed to a comprehensive treatment model, collaborating with medical doctors, social workers, nurses, and psychologists. The internship is individualized to meet the needs and skills of each intern and offers options that may include a rotation on the forensic outpatient team. Interns may participate in hospital research, scholarly writing, or the development of training programs for in-service education or community presentations. In addition to Psychology Department seminars and case conferences, interns participate weekly in Maine Medical Center Psychiatric Grand Rounds via interactive teleconferencing. RPC Psychology Department welcomes doctoral level graduate students in clinical/counseling psychology programs. The program runs for 12 consecutive months, and requires 2000 hours of training. Interns work approximately 40 hours per week. A minimum of two hours of individual supervision and two hours of group/assessment supervision is provided weekly. A stipend of $40,000 is provided.
