Interviews at this site are: Not Offered

Interview notification date: 12/01/2023
Tentative interview date: 01/11/2024
Interview process description:

The positions are open to students who are formally enrolled in an accredited doctoral program in clinical psychology, who meet the CPA or APA academic and practicum criteria and who have received formal approval from the Directors of Training to apply for this residency.

Applications will be considered from CPA accredited programs in counseling psychology only if the student can demonstrate sufficient training and application of standardized psychometric assessment techniques, integrated report writing, and delivery of interventions to mental health populations (see APPIC application Part 1, Section 4: Test Administration).

All applicants must have completed a minimum of 600 hours practicum training (direct hours + supervision).  Applications will only be accepted from Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or non-Canadians enrolled in CPA accredited Canadian clinical (or counseling) psychology graduate programs who have arranged a valid residency work permit.  Preference will be given to applicants who have completed all required academic coursework prior to the APPIC interview notification date.

Applicants will be notified (via email) regarding an interview on December 1st, 2023.  There will be no in-person interviews.  Only virtual interveiws will be offered (e.g., Zoom).  All interviews will occur on either January 11th or 12th, 2024.  Interviews are semi-structured in format.  The applicant will be individually interviewed by 2 staff, for approximately 60 minutes.  While every effort is made to have interviewers from rotation areas of interest for the applicant, this is not possible in all cases. There also will be an opportunity to speak "informally" with potential supervisors via virtual meetings and/or email/phone appointments.  Similarly, interviewees will be provided opportunities to speak “off the record” with current residents about their experiences in the residency program, either via virtual drop-in meetings and/or email/phone appointments.  We cannot accomodate requests for on-site visits.

For any successfully matched applicants with our program, proof of full immunization against COVID-19 must be provided prior to the first day of residency. Full immunization status is achieved when 14 days have passed after the second dose of a two-dose vaccine, or the first dose of a single-dose vaccine. See the following for additional information:  https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/careers/Page12215.aspx#details-panel13097

Program Description

The program is flexible, with residents helping to develop their own training program by choosing from multiple rotations that we offer across 12 different geographic sites. The residency program includes inpatient and outpatient services in medical, mental health, and forensic settings. Both assessment and intervention training requirements are mandatory during the residency.  Residents typically have between two to four rotations over the course of the year; a given rotation can be either 6 or 12 months in duration, and be either one or two days per week.  The residency consists of a 4-day clinical week (Monday-Thursday) with Fridays reserved for seminars, program development/evaluation projects, consultation, preparation, report writing, and other activities.  The Calgary Clinical Psychology Residency is accredited by the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) for a 6-year term, from 2017-18 through 2023-24.
