Program Description

WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE UPCOMING YEAR.

PSU is an urban university with a diverse student population; we also have a significant number of non-traditional students.  Individual and group psychotherapy, along with comprehensive psycho-educational assessments will be the primary focus of the intern's clinical work.  Interns will also be involved in triage and crisis intervention, and outreach and consultation. Professional development is emphasized in weekly seminars, individual supervision, and group supervision. Interns are part of an interdisciplinary counseling staff that includes psychologists, psychiatrists, and clinical social workers. Counseling services shares its facility with health services, and interns frequently interact with medical professionals.  We value "learning by doing" and social justice perspectives.

ADDITIONAL APPLICATION INFORMATION:

1) The minimum 400 intervention hour requirement (by application deadline) -- can be combined therapy and assessment hours (the majority of the therapy hours must be with adults).

2) We require a supplemental assessment report in addition to the standard application -- please remove all identifying information.

3) Assessment is a significant part of our internship.  Minimum assessment experience is not measured by hours, but includes:  At least one comprehensive evaluation with an adult or child client (not for a class) that includes three instruments.  One must be a measure of intelligence. The remaining instruments can be from two of the following categories:  Information Processing, Achievement, or Psychological Functioning.

Below are some examples from each category:

  • Intelligence:  WISC-V, WAIS-IV, WJ-IV, Stanford Binet
  • Information Processing WMS-IV, WRAML-2, TOMAL-2, DKEFS, TOVA, IVA-2
  • Comprehensive Achievement: WJ-IV, WIAT-III
