BAMC's CPIP requires three years of active duty service upon licensure. There is a one year post doctoral residency available for those with dissertation completed. BAMC is located on Fort Sam Houston, within the city of San Antonio. Teaching staff consists of full-time licensed psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers. The internship offers training in generalist skills in assessment, therapeutic intervention, and consultation. Major rotations include Military Outpatient Psychology, Neuropsychology and either Clinical Health Psychology or Child and Adolescent Psychology. Military Outpatient Psychology rotations provides extensive experience in triage, crisis management, evaluation and diagnosis, and treatment with active duty service members. Treatment modalities are typically short-term and evidence-based. On the Clinical Health rotation, interns will be expected to acquire, refine and apply a multidisciplinary biopsychosocial model to provide psychological assessments, interventions and consultations to patients with medical conditions. Interns will principally work with primary care providers and an interdisciplinary pain management team. Child and Adolescent Psychology rotation provides assessment and treatment services to children and their families. Frequently occurring diagnoses include attention deficit disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and adjustment disorder. Modalities range from play therapy to behavior modification. Developmental Clinic provides the opportunity to work with an interdisciplinary team to diagnose and develop treatment plans for children with severe developmental disorders. Neuropsychology rotation will focus on the skills needed to provide brief cognitive screening as well as a more comprehensive battery of cognitive/personality functioning with active duty soldiers.  Students will also engage in a year-long evidence based treatment rotation where they will learn modalities for treating PTSD, depression, and other disorders that have specific evidence-based protocols.
