Program Description

We believe the Internship should be devoted primarily to clinical activities, however, science provides the basis for much of our clinical practice. The core of the intern's training is in the clinical activities on rotations and each intern will be active in a wide range of clinical activities. Our program is a General Internship, and as such, interns gain assessment experience working with adults and children. Interns have experience in psychotherapy and assessment.

Our major goal is to prepare students for the practice of professional psychology, particularly clinical and counseling psychology. Other goals include learning high standards of ethical practice and sensitivity to cultural and individual difference. The rotation choices an intern makes, allow for specialized training in either clinical neuropsychology, pediatric and clinical child psychology, or adult psychology while maintaining a general internship philosophy. Each intern has approximately 12 possible rotation choices.

There are approximately 33 full time and 1 part time faculty & 4 interns. We have 3 major rotations of 4 months duration, each of which involves 24 hours of clinical work each week, and 3 minor rotations which involve 12 hours of clinical activity each week. We have 4 internship-wide didactics and many specific rotation didactics which meet each week. Interns receive a minimum of 3 hours of regularly scheduled, face-to-face individual supervision. Our program is devoted to educating interns, and faculty value their teaching and supervision activities. Our program is located on the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center campus, as part of the OU Medical Center.
