Interview process description:

Applicants will be notified by email if they are selected for an interview and they will be notified by email if they are not selected for an interview.  Interview dates will be virtual and occur on January 10th, 12th, 18th, and 19th. Depending on the number of applications received, these dates might be reduced to three days. Applicants will interview with the supervising psychologist and training director and will have an opportunity to talk with the current interns separately about their experiences.

We consider other variables to applications in addition to hours. While intervention/assessment hours close to the minimum is ideal, we will consider the COVID-19 pandemic into the decision making process. It is encouraged to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic in your cover letter if needed.

Program Description

The predoctoral internship at Applewood Centers includes outpatient psychotherapy experience in our urban, community mental health center for children and adolescents and several psychological assessments. Opportunities to conduct psychological evaluations in a satellite office or residential treatment are available. The supervising psychologist utilize a CBT theoretical orientation, however, interns from various theoretical orientations are accepted and encouraged to share their knowledge of theoretical orientation and practice.  Interns participate in weekly didactic seminars and treatment team meetings. Seminar topics cover a wide range of topics including cultural competence, evidence-based treatments for a variety of diagnoses,clinical supervision, ethics and a variety of mental health disorders. In addition to weekly didadicts, we have weekly individual and group supervision. We welcome interns to stay with us to gather postdoctoral hours and experience (depending on postdoctoral interest and agency need and funding).

 

Dr. Shirah Cohen-Tidd is a clinical psychologist and training director with a specialty interest in the treatment of children and adolescents.  She earned both her master’s and doctoral degrees at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and her bachelor’s degree at Case Western Reserve University. She also earned a master’s degree in social work from the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at  Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Cohen-Tidd completed her APA-Accredited pre-doctoral internship at Joseph J. Peters Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania serving children, adolescents, and adults with a history of trauma. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health in Canton, OH.  Dr. Cohen-Tidd’s past experiences has included work in schools, outpatient, and private practice settings.

 

Dr. Sarah Lazic is a clinical psychologist with a specialty interest in the treatment of children and adolescents.  She earned both her master’s and doctoral degrees at Albizu University in Miami, Florida.  Dr. Lazic completed her APA-Accredited pre-doctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Applewood Centers, Inc. During her internship and postdoctoral training, Dr. Lazic specialized in trauma-related interventions for children and adolescents and psychological assessment of children and adolescents .  Additionally, she gained additional experience in learning about and implementing components of evidence-based practices such as PCIT.  Dr. Lazic also has a background in elementary education. Dr. Lazic's past experiences have included work in schools, outpatient, residential, and hospital settings.
