Program Description

The Doctoral Internship at Franciscan Children’s has three (3) full year tracks: Pediatric Rehab, Acute Psychiatric, and Neurodevelopmental. Interns in each track gain experience in both their primary track and outpatient therapy and/or assessment. The Pediatric Rehab Intern’s primary role is conducting assessments and providing therapeutic services on our pediatric post-acute medical rehab units working with children with both newly acquired injuries or illness and chronic medical conditions.  The Acute Psychiatric Intern’s primary role is conducting assessments and providing therapeutic services (group, individuals, and family therapy) in either our acute behavioral residential program or our child and adolescent inpatient mental health program. The Neurodevelopmental Intern’s primary role is conducting assessments and providing therapy with individuals who present with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or other developmental, genetic, or intellectual disabilities as part of our Coordinated ASD Service Line (CASL).

Our training program follows practitioner-scholar model.  Our program employs supervisors who train within several orientations including systems, behavioral, developmental, cognitive-behavioral.

The training opportunities include: 1) neuropsychological/psychological evaluation, 2) intervention (individual, group, and family therapy), 3) consultation and supervision, 4) seminars and didactics, 5) case conferences, and rounds.

Each track has its own unique rank ID and each track has its own specific training opportunities. Interns are encouraged to apply to as many of the three tracks as interest them. Expressing interest in multiple tracks does not negatively impact your likelihood of being interviewed or ranked. Please indicate on your application which of the three placements interest you.
