Interview process description:

Interview usually take place in early January.  You will spend several hours with us and have good feel for what we are like before you leave.  There will be one structured interview and one informal interview, each with a couple of faculty members.  We will serve lunch.  You will have a chance to speak with interns privately and also be able to talk with non-psychologist staff members.  Surveys indicate that interviewees appreciate this internship day.

Program Description

The doctoral internship program in psychology is offered by LSU. The biopsychosocial and scholar-practitioner models are used. Supervision is developmentally sensitive, interpersonal, and allows for mentoring. Supervisors represent a wide variety of theoretical orientations, and interns are supported in the model they choose. The Program's aim is to train competent generalists. See website. Interns function as team members in the interdisciplinary environment. The emphasis of the internship year is on training and service. Due to the depth and breadth of training experiences, interns expand the range of employment options available to them after graduation, enabling them to be competitive in the job market. Interns spend time in a university mental health clinic.  Interns provide crisis intervention, individual therapy, group therapy, couples counseling, and psychological assessments. Students are assisted with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, stress disorders, sexual abuse issues, eating disorders, alcohol and drug abuse issues, and personality disorders. Students presenting with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, suicidality, and various psychoses are also seen at the counseling center. In addition to providing clinical services, interns participate in weekly formal training experiences (i.e., seminars).  See our website for complete and updated application information.
