The internship program plays a significant role in the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital and Semel Institute for Neuroscience & Human Behavior. Interns are involved in a wide range of clinical activities, seminars and research in the Adult, Child, and Geropsychiatry Divisions. Psychology faculty co-lead many of the clinics and programs within the institution. The internship has been accredited by APA continuously since 1963.
The mission of Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, in association with the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at the David Geffin School of Medicine at UCLA and the Semel Institute for Neuroscience & Human Behavior, is to develop and maintain an environment in which education and research are integrated with exemplary patient care. The vision of the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA is to serve the healthcare needs of our community, our patients and their families through excellence in research, education, and the provision of neuropsychiatric and behavioral health services. The RNPH and Semel Institute are a major tertiary care settting for behavioral health needs in Los Angeles County, which has a population of approximately 10 million.
The internship provides opportunities in assessment, intervention and consultation to children, adolescents, adults and older adults in inpatient, partial hospitalization and outpatient settings. Although the majority of training takes place within RNPH and the Semel Insitute, there are also opportunities to provide community outreach.
