Department: The Sullivan Center for Children
The Center provides a day long open house and interview process where the applicant has the opportunity to meet the professional staff, interview with selection committe members, tour the facilities, and meet with current training professionals including interns and/or post-doctoral fellows.
We prefer onsight interviews that are held during the open house which are usually held in January on consecutive Wednesdays. For the current year we will hold the open house events on Wednesday January 17 and 24. The open house begins at 8:00 am and usually concludes between 3:00 and 4:00 pm. During the day planned activities, interviews, meeting sessions as well as breakfast and lunch will provide to the applicant. There will be ample opportunity for the applicant to learn about the Center, it's training opportunities and the quality and caliber of the training staff.
The Sullivan Center for Children is an intensive outpatient treatment center that specializes in providing psychological services to children, adolescents and their families. The Sullivan Center is a Psychological Corporation currently employing fifteen clinicians, including one Board Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, five licensed Psy.D. psychologists and five licensed Ph.D. psychologists. Additional clinical staff is comprised of two non-licensed psychological assistants and three post-doctoral fellows. We use an integrated team approach in which, if appropriate, children and members of their families can be involved in an integrated treatment approach using more than one modality. Our general procedure is to assess the presenting problem and outline an individual treatment plan for the child and family. The population treated varies greatly in terms of age, type of pathology, socio-economic status, and cultural background. We deal with problems of childhood that range from mildly to severely disturbed. Often times our clients have had previous treatment in hospitals, residential treatment centers or day treatment programs. We are dedicated to treating individuals intensively to help avert hospitalizations or placements in residential treatment. The ages of clients treated at the Center run from infancy through older adulthood, although adults treated at the Center usually arrived at our services through a child or adolescent problem. The Center is a for-profit corporation. We have established contracts with the local school district and The Central Valley Regional Center. Additionally interns are exposed to pediatric psychiatry and issues in forensic psychology.
